The HHEW 100 Group was founded in 2001 as an online networking group. Today, as a think tank, it also serves as the primary advisory body for the entire consortium. Various members also head the consortium's inter-professional associations. The annual HHEW Leaders Conference & Retreat was first held in 2004 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Since then attendees and presenters from various professions have come from places as diverse as California, Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, Georgia, Virginia, Maryland, New York, Texas, Florida, Nevada and Jamaica. Now open to the public, four special features of the conference are; 1) 95% of the attendees also present papers or serve on discussion panels, 2) clear implementation strategies are generated, 3) ongoing discourse is facilitated via the HHEW 100 and INVR/HHEW associations and 4) the conference & retreat serves as the first source for journal articles.
Although a college degree is not required to be a member of the HHEW 100 Group (don't forget that Fannie Lou Hamer, Elijah Muhammad and Marcus Garvey were unlettered, but very, very great), we are proud of the fact that many of our members have attended and/or worked at institutions as diverse as Howard, Princeton, the Claremont Colleges, Stanford, St. Paul's, Columbia, Fielding, Clark Atlanta, The Citadel, Rutgers and the University of the West Indies.
Further, we are proud to note that leaders and leadership, as researched in the TALO Leadership Theory, can be found in roles as diverse as parenting, community organizing, politics, law, religion, business and in international relations, etc.

Since 2008 -- you can earn CEUs at the conference & retreat
A Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a measure used in continuing education programs, particularly those required in a licensed profession in order for the professional to maintain the license. Examples of people who need CEUs include educators, nurses, mental health professionals, and social workers. Generally, a CEU is defined as ten hours of participation in a recognized continuing education program, with qualified instruction and sponsorship. CEU records are widely used to provide evidence of completion of continuing education requirements mandated by certification bodies, professional societies, or governmental licensing boards. The records also provide employers with information on training pertinent to particular occupations. The term CEU is in the public domain. Any organization may award a traditional CEU without requiring any accreditation. However, with a traditional CEU an employer or other organization must decide on an individual basis whether to honor the CEU from a training provider.
